Loving Wine

Can you feel the love tonight?

A glass of wine is timeless, it can be a conversation starter, it says, “welcome to my home”. When I find a wine that I absolutely love. I will buy it, and buy it in quantity to store in my wine fridge. Wine is meaningful like no other beverage. Follow the path from earth to glass. Every decision had an impact on the flavor and personality of what I am tasting in my glass at this moment.

The Makers

Wine enamors me. I am in absolute awe of the people who dedicate their lives to making such a humble, artisan-made beverage. A winemaker blends personality into the wine. Try the wine and you have tasted the passion of the winemaker.

The Senses

Wine is sensual, pleasurable. It all starts through the nose in the bouquet. Smell is directly connected to the part of our brain that triggers memory, humor, and emotions. That’s why, when we sniff out a scent in the wine, at times we may not be able to identify it with words, but it takes us back to a familiar memory. With a trained nose, you can even smell out the wine’s age, region, assemblage, and how it was produced. One might hear that variety is the Spice of life. This is true as there are hundreds of grape varieties as well as micro-regions with individual styles.

The Perfect Pair

When wine is paired with the right food all the flavors are enhanced. It makes food taste better. The acidity and tannins naturally compliment your favorite foods. A hearty meal, the tapas, a Sunday brunch, and even dessert are all intensified with the right wine.

The Habit

Research now shows that 1-2 glasses of wine per day have health benefits—from antioxidants in red wine tannins to reduce gallstones and the instances of heart attacks and strokes. However, if you have over two glasses, all health benefits are lost. After two the effect of alcohol and excess calories (sugar) set in. And no, you cannot bank glasses during the week and cash them in on the weekend. Get in the habit of a glass of wine with dinner, or with lunch, and alternate with water.

The Love

Have you fallen? In love with wine yet? It won’t take you long once you find what you like. Share it with your one and only and explore the world of wine together.
